Moving or returning to South Africa

 


More and more people are moving to South Africa. The majority of these are South African citizens returning after having lived, worked and travelled abroad. Bringing back their skills, their experience and in many cases a new family or at the minimum a foreign spouse.

This section will share experiences on some of the general topics and administrative tasks you will come across as you look to move back to South Africa.


South African spousal visa
One of the foreign spouses connected to 2010capetown shares his path to getting a spousal visa. "You can always pay an Immigration company money to help you, but you will still have to do most of the steps yourself (Medical report, Radiological report etc) - so why not save the money and do it all on your own".

I bought a car in Cape Town (coming soon)
You have plenty of options when it comes to buying a car in South Africa. All determined by how much you want to spend, how much you know about cars and how gutsy you are. I did the rounds going to dealerships, second hand car sales people and even went to a Repo Auction.

Getting to grips with Insurance
You can insure nothing and everything and all in between. Home Insurance, Car Insurance, Health Insurance, Contents Insurance - the list goes on and on.

Phonelines and waiting for Telkom (coming soon)
Possibly the biggest shock to the system, in moving to South Africa, is that the phone and broadband connection you have gotten used living in Europe will be a long gone memory. The services are here and the good news is that it is rapidly improving, but currently it is slower and more expensive.
